Explore the Four Phases of the Design Process

Strategy

The Strategy phase translates research into frameworks that will guide the design process. The insights derived from the research will inform the development of these frameworks as well as the exploration of potential design directions. There are two steps within the strategy phase:

  • Synthesis is a process of ‘making sense’ of what we are seeing and hearing during the interviews, observations, and analogous explorations. It is a process that takes us from inspiration to ideas, from stories to solutions.
  • Brainstorming gives us permission to think expansively and without constraints—quickly generating an abundance of new ideas

The specific products developed in the Strategy phase include a research snapshot, a behavioral segmentation, design principles and mobile recommendations. These products will be developed through an iterative process that includes discussion with and feedback from federal and state partners and other experts.
